Child safety and preventing abuse | Volunteer training

How To Tell Your Child is a Bangalore based social organisation that works on issues of child health such as preventing child sexual abuse and teaching child safety. In the past, the organisation has also worked with UNESCO and UNFPA. Their programs are implemented in over 40 countries.

How to Tell Your Child is conducting training programme for interested volunteers on the topic of child safety and preventing abuse.

Volunteers attending the training will be given a certificate from How To Tell Your Child. Training materials will also be given to hold these sessions for children in their neighbourhood or at local schools.

    • The training of the volunteers can take place over Skype or in person at their office in JP Nagar, Bangalore.
    • This volunteering opportunity is open Pan India and is not restricted to Bangalore.
    • The ensuing workshops for children after the training can be held as per the convenience of the volunteer.
    • It is recommended to hold at least one session on child safety per month.

Volunteer at the Street Store | Blooming Beacon initiative

Blooming Beacon Social Welfare Association, in collaboration with Bhumi and other partnering organisations, is organising the 3rd Chapter of Street Store in Sembakkam, near Tambaram.

The aim of the event is to provide ‘dignified shopping experience to the needy’, where we will be giving free clothes, toys, bags, mattresses, women accessories and other necessary things to impact more than 15,000 slum people. We will also launch the campaign ‘Give Pads – Gift Hygiene‘ on the same day to provide free sanitary pads for a year to 2000 women/girls.

We all share the responsibility in ensuring a safe and secure surrounding to live – for ourselves, our families and friends. For a disciplined life, education is crucial right from young age. Here is a chance to address the potential juvenile delinquency proactively and positively, by leading children in the path of knowledge.

We are organising a Summer Programme at select corporation schools in Ambattur, Chennai, for adolescent children to learn English. The initiative is supported by our city Police team. Spoken English will be taught with computer as learning aid. The learning sessions will be facilitated by volunteers. The number of sessions will depend on the schools, number of participants and the infrastructure being provided.

The programme benefits the society, and the children in many vital ways. It will lead to the students in the cohort developing some skills, self confidence and a more positive attitude to their context and surroundings.

Open Links is looking for volunteers who can make education interesting by helping students to make and use good educational videos.

Volunteering requirements:

Below are few expectation form the volunteers:

  • Assist students to make educational videos
  • Volunteers should be able to read and understand the curriculum of classes 6 to 9 (Science, Maths, History etc)
  • Volunteers should be able to guide children on story writing and visualization.
  • Training and support will be provided to volunteers

Volunteering details:

  • Schools will be so selected that it lies in your nearest locality and your timing requirements. However, this may not be a perfect match.
  • Also school schedules can sometime change due to exams, other events, holidays or teacher priorities.
  • We expect you to work out your schedules with the schools so that the program can continue to run successfully during the year.
  • You will typically spend about 1-3 hours with the school every week.
  • Depending on school schedule you may visit the school about 30-40 weeks in a year; The rest of the time, you will be spending on preparation, reflections, sharing etc. in person or mostly on phone / internet with your coach.

Commitment: 6 hours/week for a minimum of 1 year.

Location: Chennai

Other details:

  • This is a pro-bono activity. You may also end up spending money for things like travel and internet.
  • Reasonable comfort and excitement about using IT tools. Confidence that you can manage syllabus of 6th to 10th.

The 2018  DaanUtsav Internship programme is an opportunity for young professionals to create significant social change.

About DaanUtsav

DaanUtsav, earlier called Joy of Giving Week (JGW), is India’s very own festival of giving. It aims to spread love, joy and happiness among those who are less fortunate than us, and for each one of us to experience the joy in giving. DaanUtsav is celebrated for a week starting Gandhi Jayanti (Oct 2-8) every year, and was launched in 2009.

From celebrities and CEOs, to auto drivers and maids, school and college students to village communities, millions of people participate in the festival ever year in various ways- from organizing large fundraisers that raise lacs and crores, to reading out stories to children, making and distributing sandwiches on the street, to organizing donation, collection and volunteering drives, the festival sees participation from hundreds of corporates, schools, colleges, NGOs, apartments, villages and community groups across India.

DaanUtsav 2018 will be celebrated from October 2-8, 2018 across India.

 

Internship details

The internship period is 3-6 months, and requires full-time commitment from May/June/July  2018 – Oct 15, 2018.

The duration will depend on the city/location. Each intern is assigned a local coordinator, who is a DaanUtsav volunteer himself/herself, and will work from the offices of the Coordinator’s organization, or in a local nonprofit organization.

  • Full-time commitment for the stipulated period
  • Three/Four/Five or Six month full-time commitment from May/June/July – Oct 15, 2018
  • Stipend: Base of Rs 10000 – Rs 15000, plus Rs 3000 – Rs 5000 to cover travel & communication

The DaanUtsav Internship Experience

The Internship is a grueling and demanding work experience. Each intern is required to spend at least 48 hours a week, but we expect that most will wind up spending more than 55 hours, and having great fun doing so.

  • Each Intern is assigned a Coordinator, who is also a DaanUtsav volunteer. Coordinators are senior corporate executives, business leaders or social entrepreneurs. Each coordinator is committed to spending at least 10-20 hours a month in mentoring the Interns, helping them reflect, learn and grow, and pick up soft and hard skills to work effectively and achieve goals. Coordinators will provide significant initial guidance and training, followed by daily support and monitoring to the Intern throughout the duration of the Internship.
  • Interns get to interact with a wide range of business leaders and executives, social entrepreneurs and NGOs, school and college leaders, government administrators and community leaders. This kind of exposure is rarely available in any other opportunity, and will help Interns create phenomenal relationships and networks across their city.
  • Interns work closely with passionate volunteers in their own city
  • Interns build strong communication, presentation and persuasion skills, self- confidence, positive values and beliefs, greater compassion and caring, a deeper understanding of India’s social issues and challenges as well as possible solutions to them.
  • Interns receive a certificate on successful completion of the Internship Programme from the host organisation.

DaanUtsav Internship Requirements

An ideal Intern would be

  • A graduate or post graduate from a reputed college, with stellar academic and extra-curricular credentials
  • An extroverted person who likes going out and meeting people
  • Very comfortable using email, computers
  • Fluent in English and the local language of the city s/he will be based in
  • Willing to work hard to scale the festival in the assigned location
  • Comfortable with suitable local commute

Volunteer for English video course preparation | The Hindu

Calling out for volunteers who can do a bit of acting and has clear spoken English.
The Hindu’s initiative STEP is an educational program for job-market entry skills support. Lessons in form of short videos are to be shot. Volunteers are needed for acting in the video. He/she should be able to speak clear English and be able to quickly learn and repeat 1-2 pages of lines. They should be available to come in a couple of half-days a month for shoots. Shooting a 3-minute lesson typically requires multiple takes, and occasionally some voice dubbing, for a total time of 1-2 hours per lesson shoot.

Volunteers of age between 18-26 are needed to take part in film shoots, mostly at The Hindu office on Mount Road. The audition will be held for the registered candidates at The Hindu Office.
