As a continuous effort to reduce the accidents in the country, last month, on 31.05.2015, Thozhan carried out the traffic awareness campaigns at following 7 Signals in Chennai.<\/p>\n

  1. Ambattur<\/li>\n
  2. T.Nagar<\/li>\n
  3. Sholinganallur<\/li>\n
  4. Ekkattuthangal (Ambal Nagar Signal)<\/li>\n
  5. Valluvar Kottam<\/li>\n
  6. Tidel Park (with Bhumi)<\/li>\n
  7. Gemini Flyover Signal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/i>Volunteer for future Road safety Awareness Events<\/a><\/p>\n

    The Event objective was to<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u2022 Bring awareness to wear helmet and seat belt.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Ensure Safe Road crossing by insisting pedestrians on following rules.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Bring awareness on importance of abiding Traffic signal.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Bring awareness on the risks of driving with distractions (Mobile phones, Music players, etc.,)<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Campaign against drunken driving and bring awareness on risks associated with it.<\/p>\n

    \"TAC\"<\/a><\/p>\n

    To achieve the above objectives, we did following activities at all signals,<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u2022 Guided vehicles to stop before signal stop-line.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Displayed placards with road safety messages to bring awareness on traffic rules<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Distributed around 4500 pamphlets, with details on road safety and its importance.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Guided pedestrians on road crossing with insistence on following road rules.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Affixed around 2000nos. anti-glare stickers onto the headlights.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Volunteers conveyed the Road Safety messages to the Riders, Drivers and pedestrian\u2019s by one to one contact.<\/p>\n

    Volunteers Participation:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u2022 Overall there were about 120 volunteers participated very enthusiastically.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 Organizations participated: Naloore Vattam, Bhumi, Ilaingan, Care and Welfare, Aware, MSW Foundation, Loksatta Volunteers, Jagadeesh Academy of Arts.<\/p>\n

    \u2022 All the regular and new volunteers taken the pledge for following Traffic Rules before doing campaign.

    Public Response:
    \n<\/strong>
    \n1) There were amazing responses from public at almost across all signals.<\/p>\n

    2) People congratulated our efforts and committed to follow traffic rules.<\/p>\n

    3) Even with arguing people, our volunteers, kindly and firmly conveyed the road safety messages.<\/p>\n

    4) While crossing the Gemini Signal, Mr.N.Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner, appreciated our volunteers efforts.<\/p>\n

    5) At Valluvarkottam signal, one small boy from a car opened the door and congratulated us.Even some People said sorry for not wearing helmets and seatbelts.<\/p>\n

    6) There were numerous occasions wherein people worn helmets and tightened seat belts after our insistence.<\/p>\n

    7) Ambattur signal had 10 kids from \u201cJagadeesh Academy of arts\u201d as volunteers, who were very enthusiastically conveyed the safety messages to fellow brothers and sisters of the city. People gave great response to those kids by showing thumps ups and salutes.<\/p>\n

    8) At many places, people argued due to lack of infrastructures like stop line, Zebra crossing etc.,<\/p>\n
