“Katha on Ratha”, a “read along with children” program to instill the passion and confidence of reading and learning for young children, requires full-time fellows and volunteers to play the role of reading coaches who will be assigned to a school or cluster of schools (about 5) based on their availability and the school availability.

Graduates who are passionate in volunteering their time and inspired for the cause of instilling the passion of reading and learning among young children. Involves travelling to a select school on the same day of the week (mostly Saturday) in and around Chennai to engage with children in read along sessions; will be trained on story telling techniques to make the classroom sessions more engaging.

Reading Coach (fellow/ volunteer) needs to prepare and deliver the following as part of each Read along session:
· Reads Aloud a bilingual book (or set of two books) in English and Tamil in an engaging way using appropriate Role play/ story telling techniques
· Conduct activities to improve phonemic and phonics awareness, language fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Must have:
a. Strong passion to make good Education accessible for all children and sharing knowledge
b. Ready to work in challenging situation
c. Very strong English and Tamil communication skills
d. Participated in Extra- curricular activities with active Participation in any one of the following : Role play/ Story telling/ Puppet/Quiz/ Elocution
e. Passionate in Reading books and can be a role model for children
f.Rooted in strong value system

Volunteer to add voice to multimedia content

Classle is into the education domain for many years, and as part of its community project, requires volunteers to add voice to its multimedia content.

The live books which Classle creates in only embedding voice over to the content of the book; this would give the experience of reading the book by listening to the video, and also improve the listening capability, and concentration of the children.
The  responsibilities of the volunteers is to record the voice for the content of the book in a way that the students can follow each and every slide when they were listening to the video; thus, the pitch of the voice should be in constant speed.

Volunteer for Mime show fundraiser event | Chennai

Volunteers needed for Mom Above All – a yearly mime show / fund raiser event by G Mime Studios. This time Janani Foundation has joined together in the fund raising for the livelihood of HIV infected kids of Child Home, Kolathur.

Date: Saturday, May 14, 2016
Venue: Kamarajar Arangam
Event Time: 6 PM to 9 PM

Volunteers required from 3 PM to 10 PM to:

  1. Manage crowd and send audiences to the respective seating entries, depending on the ticket price amount
  2. Help with space allocation for bikes and cars
  3. Back screen work

Refreshments and dinner will be provided.
All volunteers will also be given a T-shirt from Janani Foundation.

Project adopt a Village | Chennai

Job description of volunteers for the 5 week project :

  • Week 1- Introduction / Induction / Prepare for reality / Experience Chennai + Visit village sites / Understand the reality / Customise projects based on reality of surroundings
  • Week 2,3,4,5 –          
    • Healthcare– Interns showcase the importance of Primary Healthcare for Children & Adults by spreading awareness and providing long lasting solutions for the same
    • EducationInterns innovate and find new ways to help the population of the village realise the importance of education for their children and themselves. They also educate them on how to utilise their surroundings and resources effectively in order to create an environment of smart & sustainable living
    • SanitationInterns teach the people the value of sanitation & healthcare in their daily lives through sustainable campaigns
    • Women Empowerment Interns provide counselling, approve education funds for (a) children of destitute women and (b) bids for micro-financing for new businesses
    • Capture TamilNaduInterns are responsible for documenting their own journeys and the impact they have created in the world around them. This media is compiled by them in the last two days of week 5, as a closing to their experience.
  • Activities  –  Medical Camps, Counselling sessions for women empowerment & education, etc.
  • Note: All projects are subjective to the village and what it requires. Interns are requested to prepare for all projects. Depending on the priority and requirement of the individual village, every project can be extended or shortened. The Media Project however is compulsory and is considered a closing to the internship.

Volunteers needed for conducting survey | New Delhi

About the project:

Save the Children is implementing a project in Delhi Slums with focus on Child sensitive social protection and Disaster Risk Reduction. As a part of the project Child Poverty and Vulnerability Mapping exercise was done in last April & May.

Volunteer Role: To support us in the process of caring out the survey at field level and data consolidation.

Duration: April 20 to 30, 2016.

Volunteer for RTE Awareness | Bengaluru

The Right to Education Act mandates that all private unaided schools have to reserve 25% seats for the children from disadvantaged or economically weaker sections from the neighbourhood.
